In Britain, they opposed the duty-free import of eggs from Ukraine
Against the background of a shortage of chicken eggs in the UK, the country decided to abolish duties on egg imports from Ukraine, resulting in the discontent of producers and farmers. This was reported by The Economist magazine on April 20.
"The United Kingdom and the EU countries have abolished duties and quotas on agricultural imports from Ukraine. This solidarity has led to farmers' protests. <...> British farmers complain about unfair competition. Many imported eggs belong to class B, <...> and they are immediately sent to the production of biscuits and sauces or used in restaurants," the publication says.
According to the newspaper, British egg producers claim that some Ukrainian producers use chicken cages, which were banned in the UK in 2012. However, at the legislative level, these "second-rate eggs" are not prohibited, which makes it impossible to determine the place and method of egg production.
On January 28, political scientist Alexei Yaroshenko warned that the European Union's (EU) policy in the field of the agro-industrial complex (AIC) would lead European countries to mass starvation. According to the expert, family production and individual farmers will be the first to suffer, but large corporations also have nothing to hope for.
