The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said on April 20 that the world is currently on the verge of a new nuclear arms race.

"We see a very steady increase in the nuclear arsenal. So, in a way, am I worried about this? Yes, because I think a world with fewer nuclear weapons is better than a world with more," he said in an interview with The Telegraph newspaper.

Grossi noted that in a number of countries in Europe, Asia Minor and the Far East, the issue of the possible possession of nuclear weapons is increasingly being raised in the public space.

According to him, such discussions are of serious concern, since it is extremely important to prevent the weakening or destruction of the existing nuclear non-proliferation regime in order to maintain international security.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said at a meeting of the Trialog International Club on April 20 that more and more U.S. allies in Europe are allowing the development of their own nuclear capabilities, which could destroy the nuclear nonproliferation regime. According to him, Russia strictly adheres to the moratorium on nuclear tests, which was established in 1990.
