At a meeting with the American side in Havana, the Cuban delegation set the main task of resolving the issue of lifting the energy embargo. This was announced on April 20 by Alejandro Garcia del Toro, Deputy Director General of the Cuban Foreign Ministry's department for Relations with the United States.

"Lifting the energy embargo against the country was a top priority for our delegation. This act of economic coercion is an unjustified punishment of the entire Cuban population," Granma newspaper quoted him as saying.

As the diplomat pointed out, during the meeting, neither side set deadlines or made strict demands, as reported by the American media. The discussion took place in a correct and professional atmosphere.

In addition, del Toro added that the embargo is a form of global pressure on sovereign states that have every right to supply fuel to Cuba in accordance with the principles of free trade.

The Axios portal reported on April 18 that representatives of the US State Department visited Cuba, where they met with the grandson of former President of the island Raul Castro Guillermo Rodriguez Castro. It was noted that the American delegation offered Cuba assistance in restoring Internet service on the island through Starlink terminals. Representatives of the State Department also called the Cuban side the conditions for lifting the American embargo.
