Scammers placed fake QR codes in paid parking lots in St. Petersburg
In St. Petersburg, fraudsters have started placing fake QR codes on information boards in paid parking areas. This was announced on April 20 by the press service of the St. Petersburg State Institution "City Parking Management Center of St. Petersburg" (GTSUP).
"There have been cases of fake QR codes being placed on the information boards of the City Parking Management Center in St. Petersburg. The attackers paste them on top of the original codes of the institution," the official message of the department says in the Telegram channel.
The center stressed that in St. Petersburg, parking is not provided directly through a QR code. The real codes on the billboards lead exclusively to the official website of the organization, where the rules and available payment methods are indicated.
NCUP specialists have already started checking the parking space to identify and eliminate fakes. The actions of the offenders are recorded by video surveillance cameras. Drivers are asked to be vigilant and check whether a QR code is pasted on top of another one before scanning.
On the same day, the press service of the Moshelovka platform of the Popular Front warned about fraudsters sending messages about parking fines. Experts attribute this to the appearance of new road signs and time restrictions in April.
On April 16, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that fraudsters find old publications on free ad platforms where the owner's number has been preserved, and write to users under the guise of buyers, convincing them of the relevance of the ad. The standard dialogue about the ad that the user actually posted, and his desire to figure out why it appeared online again, is the hook of a fraudulent scheme.
