A ban on the import of goods from Belarus to Russia has been ruled out, despite the identification of a dangerous substance in the products of Smolevichi Milk and Savushkin Product companies. This was reported to Izvestia on April 20 by the press service of the Rosselkhoznadzor.

"The enhanced laboratory control regime does not imply an import ban. Enhanced laboratory control is a measure introduced as an alternative to a temporary ban on the movement of goods produced by these enterprises to the territory of other member states [of the Eurasian Economic Union, EAEU] or for export," the ministry explained.

As indicated in the Rosselkhoznadzor, sampling for control is carried out from 10 batches of goods for no more than three months. Laboratory tests are carried out only according to the indicator according to which the discrepancy was detected.

"Whether a ban on the import of products will be important cannot be answered unequivocally immediately, since the decision will be made on the basis of further control and supervisory measures," the ministry concluded.

Earlier that day, the Rosselkhoznadzor introduced a regime of enhanced laboratory control over cottage cheese from Belarusian producers Smolevichi Milk and Savushkin Product due to the detection of residual albendazole sulfone in the companies' cottage cheese. It was clarified that this substance is a decay product of an anthelmintic drug used in veterinary medicine. However, its presence in milk may pose a risk of toxic effects to humans.
