Mauritius has seen a sharp increase in the number of people infected with chikungunya fever. This was announced on April 20 by the Russian Embassy in the republic.

"The Ministry of Health of Mauritius warns of a sharp increase in the number of people infected with chikungunya fever. To date, more than 1,400 appeals have been recorded," the message on the Telegram channel of the diplomatic mission says.

The country's authorities urged citizens not to be near reservoirs with standing water and to use anti-mosquito products. The embassy strongly recommended seeking medical help when the first symptoms appear, which include headache, aching joints, high fever and bright skin rashes.

Gennady Onishchenko, an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education, announced on February 4 that chikungunya fever would not spread in Russia. He explained that this disease is transmitted mainly by vector—borne pathways - through the bites of certain species of mosquitoes that do not live in Russia.

On the same day, Rospotrebnadzor announced that an imported case of chikungunya fever had been registered in Russia. It was noted that the patient arrived in Moscow after a vacation in the Seychelles, where she noted mosquito bites and did not use repellents.
