An explosion at a pyrotechnics factory in India killed 25 people.
At least 25 people have been killed and four others seriously injured in an explosion at a firecracker factory in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This was announced on April 20 by the BBC television and radio company.
"The explosion occurred at an enterprise in Virudunagar district on Sunday evening. The factory was supposed to be closed, but at that moment there were about 50 workers inside," the publication says.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire initially damaged at least three factory premises. Rescue efforts were significantly slowed due to the ongoing detonation of pyrotechnics inside the building.
The police filed a complaint against the factory owner and the foreman. Both defendants in the case are currently hiding from law enforcement agencies.
The authorities have formed four special teams to search for suspects. Officials have so far identified the bodies of 22 victims. Most of the victims of the tragedy are women. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
The Seattle Times reported yesterday that three people were injured in an explosion at the BP Cherry Point refinery in Washington State. According to local rescue services, at about 10:20 a.m. local time, eyewitnesses reported a loud bang at the industrial site. Firefighters managed to bring the flames under control.
