Oil prices will remain in a wide range in the near future amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. This was reported to Izvestia on April 20 by experts, noting the impact of supply risks and instability in the Middle East.

According to Olga Veretennikova, vice president of Borsell analytical company, the base scenario for the current week assumes fluctuations in Brent crude oil in the range of $82-95 per barrel, WTI — about $78-90, and Urals — $68-85.

"The upper limit will be tested for any news about supply risks," she stressed.

Taisiya Veprentseva, an economist and founder of the Delomant Group consulting company, also said that the market remains sensitive to geopolitics, but a significant part of the risks are already reflected in current quotes.

"Against the background of instability around the Strait of Hormuz, Brent prices rose to around $95-96 per barrel. At the same time, part of the risk premium is already embedded in the cost of oil," the expert explained.

She added that the forecasts of international investment banks remain mixed. For example, Morgan Stanley expects prices to rise to $110 per barrel in the second quarter of 2026, followed by a decrease, while Goldman Sachs expects a more moderate trend — about $83 per barrel on average for the year.

According to Veprentseva, the range of $90-105 per barrel is most likely in the coming months. At the same time, by the end of the year, with the stabilization of logistics and the absence of new shocks, prices may roll back to $ 80-95. The expert stressed that levels above $110 per barrel are currently considered as a stress scenario, and not as a steady trend.

On April 18, the Iranian armed forces announced the restoration of military control over the Strait of Hormuz due to the blockade by the United States. Later, Tehran blocked the Strait of Hormuz from the evening of April 18 until Washington's naval blockade was completely lifted.
