Durov announced "a dozen charges" against him in France
Investigations have been initiated in France against Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram messenger, on more than "a dozen charges," each of which provides for up to 10 years in prison. This was announced by the entrepreneur himself on April 20.
Durov noted that France, under the leadership of President Emmanuel Macron, is rapidly losing the legitimacy of its government, as it uses criminal investigations to suppress freedom of speech and deprive privacy, notes "Газета.Ru ".
He recalled that the US Department of Justice refused to help France in the investigation of the case against the social network X (ex. Twitter) of the American billionaire Elon Musk, stating that it is politically motivated.
"I am under a similar investigation: more than a dozen charges, each of which carries up to 10 years in prison. I am proud to stand next to Elon Musk and others who have become targets of Macron's campaign against digital rights," Durov said in his Telegram channel.
On April 19, the head of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot, supported the refusal of the US Department of Justice to help France in the investigation against Musk's social network, noting that the authorities must protect freedom of expression at all costs.
On February 3, the French Prosecutor's office began conducting searches in the offices of X together with employees of the National Cyber Division and Interpol. The next day, Musk called the searches in the Paris office a political attack. At the same time, Durov noted that France is not a free country.
