In Latvia, it was forbidden to speak Russian on school grounds.
In Latvia, children were forbidden to communicate in Russian on school grounds, even in their free time. This was announced on April 20 by Deputy of the Riga City Council Alexey Roslikov.
"A number of laws have been passed, for example, prohibiting students from speaking a language other than the state language within the school in their free time, but on school grounds," Roslikov explained in an interview with RIA Novosti.
It is noted that Latvian politicians consider Russian to be a "kitchen language" — intended only for personal communication outside public places. According to the MP, the measures taken by the Latvian authorities covertly prohibit the use of the Russian language.
A similar situation occurs in kindergartens, Roslikov added.
