Slovakia has announced the risk of an assassination attempt on Fico
Slovakia has announced the risk of an assassination attempt on Prime Minister Robert Fico if he goes to Kiev. This was announced on April 20 by the Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament, Tibor Gaspar.
"Although Zelensky officially invited Fico, he reacted critically or negatively to such negotiations. The prime minister called such proposals inappropriate and made it clear that he was not planning a trip to Kiev. <...> In addition, he was not recommended to travel to Kiev for security reasons, where, according to experts, there could be a risk of an attempt on his life," Gaspar said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
He stressed that when considering the possibility of Fico's visit, it is worth taking into account Zelensky's recent statements addressed to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, in which the Ukrainian leader stated that he knew his address. Such words, according to Gaspar, can be interpreted as a threat of physical violence.
Gaspar said on April 1 that Slovakia opposes providing Ukraine with financial assistance from the European Union (EU) budget. According to him, Bratislava supports joint actions within the EU and has been emphasizing the need for a diplomatic solution to the conflict for a long time.
