- Estonia will not allow Fico to fly through its territory to Moscow for the Victory Day Parade
The Estonian government has extended its earlier ban on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's flight to Moscow for the Victory Day Parade. This was announced on Sunday, April 19, by the country's Foreign Minister Margus Tsakhna.
"Fico will also not receive permission this year to use Estonian airspace to fly to Moscow for the May 9 Parade. <...> We banned this last year, and the same principle applies now," he is quoted as saying on the website of the press service of the Estonian Foreign Ministry.
Tsakhkna stressed that the space belonging to his state should not be used by "any state" wishing to strengthen its ties with the Russian side.
Lithuania and Latvia also refused to let the Fico plane fly to Victory Day in Moscow the day before.
Fico confirmed his plans to attend this year's Victory Day Parade in Moscow on April 6. According to Izvestia, the Slovak Prime Minister is preparing for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Representatives of the European air traffic control service named three possible routes by which the Fico aircraft could get to Russia. All of these routes do not run through the Baltic States.
