Trump confirms Kushner and Witkoff's participation in Islamabad talks
US President Donald Trump's special Envoy Steven Witkoff and the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner will travel to Pakistan to resume talks on ending the war with Iran. This was reported on April 19 by The New York Post newspaper following a telephone conversation with the American leader.
"Steve will go there tomorrow evening," Trump said in a telephone conversation.
It is indicated that Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner will also take part in the talks scheduled for Tuesday.
It is also reported that US Vice President Jay Dee Vance will not take part in the second round of Iranian-American talks, after the delegation under his leadership failed to make progress in Islamabad. At the same time, Jonathan Karl, a journalist for ABC News channel, quoted Mike Waltz, the US Permanent Representative to the UN, as saying that it was Vance who would lead the American delegation.
Trump said earlier in the day that if Iran refuses to accept the draft "fair" American peace agreement, it will destroy all bridges and power plants in the country. After that, in his opinion, the Islamic Republic will "easily fall."
The day before, the Iranian Armed Forces announced the restoration of military control over the Strait of Hormuz due to the blockade by the United States. Later, Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz from the evening of April 18 until the complete lifting of the US naval blockade.
On the night of April 8, Trump announced that he had agreed to suspend strikes on Iran for another two weeks. The condition for this was the complete unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz. The United States has received a 10-point proposal from Iran to resolve the conflict. At the same time, the head of the White House declared his readiness to resume hostilities against Iran if the United States could not conclude an agreement.
