Airlines around the world have begun to reduce the number of flights and decommission aircraft due to a sharp increase in aviation fuel prices. This was reported on April 18 by the Bloobmerg agency.

"Passengers should prepare for further troubles in the next few months, as air carriers around the world are increasingly canceling flights and suspending flights to cope with the stratospheric rise in aviation fuel prices," the agency reports.

Dutch airline KLM has announced that it will cancel 80 take-off and departure flights from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport next month. Other airlines that have cut flights include United Airlines Holdings, Deutsche Lufthansa and Cathay Pacific Airways. It is reported that companies are forced to cancel flights in order to minimize economic damage.

"After the outbreak of the war in Iran, the aviation industry faced initial problems affecting only the airlines of the Middle East, their airports and airspace. However, since then, these problems have spread and threaten to disrupt the lucrative summer tourist season around the world," the article says.

The Guardian newspaper reported on April 16 that aviation fuel reserves in Europe could last for about six weeks, after which flight cancellations are possible amid the conflict with Iran. At the same time, easyJet CEO Kenton Jarvis announced the availability of fuel reserves until about mid-May and the absence of serious concerns in the industry.

The Corriere della Sera newspaper on April 10 stressed that the largest airports of the European Union (EU) may be left without jet fuel by the summer of 2026 due to the consequences of the military conflict in Iran. Experts cite Europe's high dependence on supplies from the Middle East as the main factor of instability.
