Likhachev announced Rosatom's readiness to help with the export of uranium from Iran.
Rosatom is ready to facilitate the export of enriched uranium from Iran. This was announced on April 18 by the head of the state corporation Alexey Likhachev.
"Only Russia has a positive experience of interaction with the Iranian side. In 2015, at the request of the Iranian side, we already exported enriched uranium from the Islamic Republic. We are ready to help with this issue today," the Rosatom Country newspaper quoted him as saying on the Telegram channel.
Likhachev stressed that the issue of uranium export remains a key and one of the most painful issues in the negotiations between Washington and Tehran. In addition to technical difficulties, the factor of trust between the parties plays a key role.
The Axios portal reported on March 8 that the United States and Israel discussed sending armed forces to Iran to seize highly enriched uranium. The publication writes that the administration of US President Donald Trump discussed two possible options for neutralizing Iranian uranium reserves — either to completely remove the raw materials from the country, or to involve experts to "dilute" it on the spot.
Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said on March 3 that demands to ban Iran from enriching uranium were illegal, since all countries could develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
