Trump called Spain's financial situation terrible
On April 18, US President Donald Trump called Spain's financial situation terrible and said that the country was doing nothing to strengthen and support NATO.
"Has anyone seen the deplorable state of Spain? Its financial performance, despite its virtually zero contribution to NATO and defense, is simply appalling. It's sad to see this!" he wrote on the Truth Social network.
The head of the White House also said on April 16 that the US allies in the North Atlantic Alliance had earned themselves a problem when they refused to support the United States in the conflict with Iran.
On March 30, Spain closed its airspace to aircraft participating in the operation against Iran. According to the newspaper El Pais, Madrid prohibits the use of the bases of Rota (Cadiz province) and Moron de la Frontera (Seville province) for fighter jets and tanker aircraft.
On March 31, Republican U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (listed as a terrorist and extremist by Rosfinmonitoring) called on Trump to impose tough sanctions against Spain in response to Madrid's decision to close its airspace to aircraft involved in the operation against Iran.
