The mother of a Russian woman detained in Mexico is not allowed to meet her daughter
Marina, the mother of Kristina Romanova, who is being held in Mexico, is not allowed to meet her daughter. The girl's mother told Izvestia about this on April 18.
"In general, we've been given 140 years of work, and only after that can we ask to be physically introduced to the child," Romanova said.
The prosecutor's office from the State of Mexico demanded that the woman, her husband and the girl herself undergo a psychiatrist, psychologist, and some kind of training. The woman was also told to attend a local school in Mexico, take a psychological exam and other formalities. At the same time, the girl herself is convinced that her mother does not need her and her parents do not want to see her, the woman claims.
On April 12, the Russian Embassy in Mexico informed Izvestia that the situation with Romanova was under special control. The diplomatic mission added that the continued detention in an institution of a person who is not detained, arrested or convicted appears to be legally groundless by all legal canons.
On the same day, Yakov Fedorov, head of the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Mexico, said that the Mexican authorities refuse to return Romanova to Russia and have not provided consular access to her since August 2025. According to the diplomat, the girl is in a specialized facility of the Mexican Attorney General's Office for Family and Children Affairs.
The girl's mother noted that the girl was being persuaded to run away. According to Romanova, her daughter met the guy through social media. He convinced the girl to run away from home, offering her freedom from "endless custody" and accusing her parents of excessive control.
