A G1-level magnetic storm has begun on Earth. This was announced on April 18 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS).

"As expected the day before, a magnetic storm began on Earth. The current level is G1," the website says.

It is noted that the duration of instability of the geomagnetic situation can become significant: from five to seven days. However, the acute phase of the event will only last the first few days. At the same time, the geomagnetic index itself may increase to the G2 level.

The day before, Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, said that a medium-intensity magnetic storm, the level of which will reach G2, is forecast in the next 48 hours in Central Russia. According to him, the Earth is "slowly but surely" approaching one of the most active geomagnetic periods of the year.
