- A baby monkey rejected by its mother in Mexico has found a replacement in a stuffed dog
A baby monkey named Yuji, who lives in one of the Mexican zoos, who was rejected by his mother, found a replacement for her in the form of a small stuffed dog, with which he does not part. This was reported on April 17 by the Associated Press (AP) newspaper.
"Yuji, a six-week-old monkey in Mexico, wakes up every day cuddling up to a stuffed dog. This companion is not just a toy, it acts as a surrogate mother after the little primate was rejected by its own mother," the text says.
It is noted that Yuji has not yet had physical contact with other members of his species, as he spends most of his time in the monkey enclosure. The animal is based at the Guadalajara Zoo's Comprehensive Center for Veterinary Medicine and Animal Welfare (CIMBA).
There he is being cared for by a team of 12 veterinarians and biologists. Currently, Yuji's weight is only 673 g. The date on which he can be transferred to a common enclosure has not yet been set, as it is important for the newborn to make the transition from dairy to plant-based foods.
The Tab publication on March 3, talking about the condition of a small orphan macaque named Punch, reported that the zoo staff, where he lived, intended to take away his stuffed orangutan. This toy also replaced the animal's parent. This step is due to the desire of those watching the monkey to help it socialize among its relatives.
Some time later, on March 17, Punch already had a girlfriend named Momo. In the video, it is noticeable that the animal, spending time with a new friend, began to broadcast typical primate behavior.
