The ophthalmologist gave advice on maintaining eye health
Associate Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Institute of Motherhood and Childhood of the Russian State Medical University, ophthalmologist, PhD Tatiana Pavlova told how to maintain eye health.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Friday, April 17, the expert recommended humidifying the air, especially during the heating season, when it becomes dry. According to her, when working with gadgets, the natural process of blinking is disrupted, so it is important to consciously pause and blink more often. She also noted the popular 20-20-20 rule: after 20 minutes of visual activity, you should take a break and look into the distance for about 6 m.
In addition, the specialist advised performing simple exercises for the eyes, for example, "drawing" circles with them and looking in different directions to relax the muscles.
The ophthalmologist stressed that gadgets are contraindicated for children under three years of age, between the ages of three and six their use should be limited to 20 minutes a day, and from 7 to 10 years — no more than 30-40 minutes in a row. She also added that it is better for children to completely eliminate screens an hour before bedtime, as blue light worsens the quality of sleep.
Ophthalmologist Tatiana Pavlova told on April 16 how to recognize a child's dry eye syndrome and false myopia. So, if a child rubs his eyes and blinks often, and in the evening he may complain that his vision is blurred, and redness of the eyes is also noticed, we can talk about dry eye syndrome. False myopia is associated with excessive stress of accommodation and occurs after prolonged use of gadgets, RT reports.
Oksana Redko, an ophthalmologist at the NIKI of childhood, reminded on April 14 about the harm of gadgets for a child's eyesight. According to her, frequent use of gadgets can cause unpleasant sensations, such as "sand" in the eyes, and due to constant muscle tension, distant vision temporarily deteriorates. The doctor reminded that when working with the equipment, the screen should be kept at least 30-40 cm away, notes 360.ru .
In March, ophthalmologist Ekaterina Bayandina said that by 2050, almost half of the world's population may experience myopia, but the main factor in vision impairment may not be the blue light from gadgets, but the distance from the screen. She explained that blue light primarily affects human biological rhythms, not visual acuity.
Earlier, ophthalmologist Vyacheslav Kurenkov said that contact lenses, like any medications, have contraindications. He noted that lenses are contraindicated in inflammatory eye diseases and corneal injuries, however, in the latter case, special scleral lenses may be prescribed to correct vision.
