France is ready to send some of its ships to the waters of the Strait of Hormuz to participate in a potential mission to ensure safe navigation there. This was announced on Friday, April 17, by French leader Emmanuel Macron during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

According to him, Paris, which advocates the early unblocking of the area in question, has already deployed significant military resources there. The French president added that his country maintains contacts with representatives of the maritime region in order to rescue them from the so-called "trap".

"France has a powerful naval presence in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Red Sea, represented by the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, as well as numerous frigates and several amphibious helicopter carriers, in addition to the air force... Part of it will be allocated for the above—mentioned works," Macron said.

As he explained, London will also take part in this "neutral and independent" activity from the parties to the conflict.

Iran opened passage through the Strait of Hormuz for commercial vessels on the same day. This event, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of this country, Abbas Araqchi, clarified, was provoked by the truce between Lebanon and Israel. US President Donald Trump thanked Tehran for this step, but added that the blockade of Iranian ports by the US military would continue.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the project of Britain and France concerning the Strait of Hormuz is incompetent. She clarified that these states are trying to act without establishing ties with Iran.
