Trump thanked Iran for opening the Strait of Hormuz

On April 17, US President Donald Trump thanked Iran for opening the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

On the same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced that the passage through the Strait of Hormuz was open to commercial vessels due to the truce between Lebanon and Israel. The diplomat added that the movement of ships is ensured along the route agreed upon by the Organization of Ports and Maritime Transport of Iran.

"Iran has just announced that the Iran Strait is fully open and ready for full passage. Thank you!", Trump wrote on the Truth Social network in large letters.

The truce between Israel and Lebanon for a period of 10 days came into force at 0:00 Moscow time on the same day. Prior to that, on April 16, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Lebanon had agreed on a 10-day ceasefire after trilateral negotiations. He noted that representatives of the two countries met in Washington for the first time in 34 years with the participation of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

On April 13, the United States began a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz due to the failure of negotiations between Washington and Tehran. It is carried out against ships of all countries entering or leaving Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports in the Arabian and Oman Gulfs.
