Hungary's future Prime Minister Peter Magyar has announced his intention to begin preliminary talks with representatives of the European Union (EU) as part of efforts to unlock funds frozen by the bloc due to disputes with his predecessor. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on April 17.

"The goal is to determine <...> before the formation of a new government on which issues we agree and what conditions the next parliament will be able to adopt as a law conforming to European standards," the Magyar agency quotes.

He said that the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will arrive in Budapest on April 17 as part of a high-ranking delegation.

"I expect constructive negotiations. It won't be easy because we have very little time," Magyar said.

On April 12, the leader of Tisa Magyar announced the victory of his party in the parliamentary elections in Hungary. On April 14, local residents disapproved of the enthusiastic reaction of the West to the party's victory. It was noted that the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton voiced joyful comments on the occasion of the victory.
