The religious scholar named the main prohibitions on Radonitsa
On Radonitsa— the day of Easter commemoration of the dead, you should not arrange noisy feasts, as well as drink alcohol in the cemetery. A religious scholar, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, professor of the Russian University of Economics, told Izvestia about this. Plekhanova Natalia Fominykh.
She also said that it is not necessary to leave food on graves, including cakes, eggs and sweets — this is a pagan tradition that the church actively opposes.
"If the temptation to leave food on the grave is very great, leave a small amount with the expectation that it will be taken away from there by those in need," Fominykh noted.
According to the expert, it is important to observe silence at the cemetery: do not make noise, do not shout and do not interfere with other people who have come to remember their loved ones. It is appropriate to put the grave in order — to remove debris, weeds, and put the fence in proper shape.
The professor stressed that the main thing on this day should be a visit to the temple and prayer for the deceased. If you wish, you can read it yourself.
Radonitsa in 2026 is celebrated on April 21. On this day, a full memorial service is held in churches, which includes Easter hymns. Believers place candles, present memorial notes with the names of deceased loved ones and pray for them.
