Telegram has blocked more than 100 thousand channels and groups in the world in a day.

Telegram messenger blocked more than 104 thousand channels and groups worldwide on April 16. These data follow from the updated statistics published on the messenger's official website.

According to current information, since the beginning of 2026, more than 12.69 million groups and channels have already stopped working on Telegram. Over the past week, the administration of the messenger has blocked almost 600 thousand accounts.

The peak blocking rate in the entire history of observations since December 2023 was recorded on January 1, 2026, when almost 543 thousand groups and channels were deleted in one day. Analysis of statistics shows a significant increase in content moderation activity. In the first quarter of 2026, the Telegram administration blocked 51% more channels and groups that violate the service's policy compared to the same period last year.

Market participants expect an even greater tightening of the blocking of these messengers.

On February 10, the Roskomnadzor press service announced Telegram's refusal to eliminate violations of Russian law. Then the RCN recalled that from August 2025, gradual restrictions are provided for services that systematically violate the laws of the Russian Federation, which can be lifted after the violations are eliminated.
