Monument to Cyril and Methodius in Vladivostok to be moved

In Vladivostok, the monument to Cyril and Methodius will be dismantled and moved to a new location. The reason is the construction of a museum and theater complex.

The monument is located on Aksakovskaya Street. In the near future, the sculptural composition will be sent to a specialized warehouse. Based on the results of the auction, a company will be selected to carry out the dismantling and transportation work.

The new location for the monument, which is a landmark for the city, will be chosen by experts from the Council for Culture and the Council for Architecture, writes IA PrimaMedia.

The composition was created by Honorary Citizen of Vladivostok Eduard Barsegov. He is the author of many iconic monuments that adorn buildings and public spaces in the capital of Primorsky Krai.

A museum, theater and educational complex is being built in Vladivostok by order of the National Cultural Heritage Foundation for Social and Cultural Projects. Branches of the Tretyakov Gallery, the Mariinsky Theatre and the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts will appear in this area.

It was planned to complete the construction of the complex in late 2025 – early 2026. However, last summer, the governor of Primorye, Oleg Kozhemyako, announced the postponement of the completion date of the complex to 2026. It became known that 800 more places will be added to the complex. Thus, the theater will be included in the category of one of the largest on the Asian mainland.

Earlier it was reported that the monument to the Russian writer and playwright Alexander Solzhenitsyn, which is located on the Korabelnaya Embankment in Vladivostok, will not be demolished, it is planned to rearrange it. The decision to move it was made by the Council for Culture and Art due to the fact that the sculpture is not suitable for this place in terms of theme. The sculpture, created by Russian architect and designer Peter Chegodaev, is planned to be placed in the square of Faith and Hope. She has been in her current position since 2015.
