The State Duma (DG) insists on the mandatory introduction of automatic emission control systems in hazardous industries to monitor the effectiveness of wastewater treatment plants. Alexander Kogan, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, told Izvestia about this on April 17.

"We insist on changing the methodology for assessing the effectiveness of wastewater treatment plants, which should be based on a clear legislative norm — the mandatory introduction of SAKS in particularly hazardous industries. It is necessary to carry out automatic pollution control throughout the year to make sure that emissions have actually decreased," Kogan said.

According to him, using the proposed methodology will allow the government of the Russian Federation to understand whether enterprises have reached the established quotas, and people will have confidence that their right to a favorable environment is really protected.

"Unfortunately, confidence in today's emissions reports from enterprises remains low. Often everything is fine on paper, but in reality we see something completely different. Honest, objective and constant monitoring is necessary. Today, the law explicitly obliges the installation of SAKS at particularly dangerous enterprises in 12 cities of the country. But by 2025, this work was actually disrupted: the systems were implemented in only 45% of enterprises," the deputy stressed.

He also noted that the Committee on Ecology of the lower house of the Russian parliament, together with the Accounting Chamber, will closely monitor the results of the implementation of the federal Clean Air project, which is currently being implemented in 41 cities.

On March 24, a modern complex for processing municipal solid waste "Ostrovsky" began operating in the Vyborgsky district of the Leningrad Region. The task of moving from accumulation to deep waste processing was set by the President of Russia and is reflected in the national project "Environmental well-being".
