- The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed to the lack of U.S. prudence in the conflict in the Persian Gulf.
Moscow does not count on Washington's prudence in the conflict in the Persian Gulf. This was announced on Thursday, April 16, by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova.
"At a time when the American military leadership publicly calls the rules of warfare nonsense — this is their expression — unfortunately, one cannot count on any kind of prudence," she said.
Speaking about the blockade imposed by the American side in the Persian Gulf, Zakharova recalled the content of the Charter of the United Nations (UN), which stipulates that such measures should be taken jointly with the UN Security Council (SC).
Based on this, she stressed that the actions of the United States are a violation of international maritime law. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry called what was happening another "free interpretation" by Washington of internationally accepted norms.
"The illegal nature of the US actions does not mean that Washington can now act in a kind of legal vacuum. We would like to remind everyone, including the US authorities, about the inadmissibility of violating international humanitarian law," she concluded.
Zakharova said on April 8 that UN representatives, assessing the situation in the Middle East, in particular, around Iran, ignore the actions of Washington and Tel Aviv. According to Zakharova, reports from organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Program (WFP) contain disappointing forecasts from the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, but its root causes are kept silent.
