Zakharova pointed to the strategic defeat of the EU due to the imposition of sanctions against Russia

Europe has inflicted a strategic defeat on itself by imposing sanctions against Russia. This was stated on April 16 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, answering a question from Izvestia during a briefing.

"We did not impose sanctions against the EU on our own initiative. Everything we imposed was a response to the sanctions they imposed. <... > The facts are clear that they have inflicted a strategic defeat on themselves," she said.
