- WP learned about the discovery of the former lieutenant governor of Virginia and his wife dead
Former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax, 47, and his wife, Serina, were found dead by Fairfax County police at their Annandale home. This was reported on April 16 by The Washington Post (WP) newspaper, citing officials.
"Previously, it appears that a man shot a woman and then committed suicide as a result of a domestic dispute," Fairfax police spokesman Chris Cosgriff said at a press conference.
The quarrel is supposed to have broken out against the background of a difficult divorce process. The discovery of the bodies was reported to law enforcement agencies by the minor son of the victims, who, along with his sister, was also at home at the time of the tragedy.
Fairfax, a representative of the Democratic Party, was elected to the second most important post in Virginia in 2017. He worked with former Governor Ralph Northam.
"We are shocked by this heartbreaking news. I was lucky enough to get to know the Fairfax family when we worked together," said Northam.
In 2019, Fairfax was charged with sexual assault dating back to 2000 and 2004. He denied the charges and ran for governor from the Democratic Party in the 2021 primaries, finishing in fourth place.
The Figaro newspaper reported on March 16 that Christian Bersait, the mayor of the French commune of Viodos-Abans-de-Ba, was found dead. It was noted that his body was found near his own car. The politician himself stopped contacting after he lost the first round of municipal elections. According to the text, an investigation was launched into the incident.
