In Europe, they warned about the risk of flight cancellations due to fuel shortages
Aviation fuel reserves in Europe may last for about six weeks, after which flight cancellations are possible due to the conflict with Iran. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper on April 16.
"I can tell you that we will soon hear the news that some flights from city A to city B may be canceled due to a shortage of aviation fuel. <...> This is a critical situation now, and it will have serious consequences for the global economy," said Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency.
It is noted that the increase in fuel prices has already led to the cancellation of some unprofitable flights by a number of airlines, although major carriers continue to operate normally.
However, easyJet CEO Kenton Jarvis stated that fuel reserves are available until about mid-May and there are no serious concerns in the industry.
The Corriere della Sera newspaper on April 10 stressed that the largest airports of the European Union (EU) may be left without jet fuel by the summer of 2026 due to the consequences of the military conflict in Iran. Experts cite Europe's high dependence on supplies from the Middle East as the main factor of instability.
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and special presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, said on April 11 that European and British officials needed to start correcting strategic mistakes in the energy sector and compensate for the damage in the near future.
