There have been 240 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 240 accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 22 people were killed and 279 injured. 19 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on April 16 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
12 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 12 road users, including two children, needed medical help. Four bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
As a result of 70 accidents, 26 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 44 outside their area of operation, three pedestrians were killed, and 70 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 29 underage pedestrians, 19 of them were injured when crossing the roadway in designated places, which means that it was the fault of motorists or their own inattention, the department noted.
47 accidents involving minors were also registered, in which 50 young road users were injured, including 11 passengers and 10 child drivers, one of whom was driving a motor vehicle. There are no dead children.
The State Traffic Inspectorate called on parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting the management of cars and motor vehicles without appropriate rights and driving skills.
The department drew the attention of parents to the administrative responsibility for providing car or motor transport control to children who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category. Mopeds and motorcycles on public roads can be driven no earlier than the age of 16, having completed training at a motorcycle school and obtained a driver's license. Cross—country motorcycles and pitbikes, which are sports equipment, should be used only on special roads and only for motorsport, including for young athletes. It is prohibited to use them on ordinary roads, as well as in populated areas.
In addition, temporary traffic closures are continuing in some regions of the country due to adverse weather conditions or a difficult flood situation. For example, in the Republic of North Ossetia — Alania, the movement of buses and trucks on the federal highway A-161 Vladikavkaz -Nizhny Lars — border with the Republic of Georgia in the direction of departure from Russia was temporarily restricted for more than a day due to the deterioration of the weather in the adjacent territory. The restriction has now been lifted.
In the Republic of Dagestan, sections of eight regional highways remain flooded as a result of the flood, as a result of which traffic is temporarily suspended on them. In the Moscow region, for the same reason, traffic was blocked on sections of 14 regional highways. A similar situation has developed in the Lipetsk region, where traffic has been stopped on 20 highways of regional importance. In the Republic of Bashkortostan, three highways in the region have been temporarily blocked due to rising water. In the Altai Territory, high water caused flooding of sections on seven regional highways. Traffic on six highways has been temporarily suspended in the Kurgan region.
When planning long-distance trips, the State Traffic Inspectorate recommended that drivers and passengers monitor the weather forecast, as well as media reports from traffic closures or restrictions. In case of a negative forecast or an unfavorable flood situation, it is recommended to postpone the trip to a later date until the weather conditions and traffic conditions improve. If you still have to go on the road, you should think in advance and determine for yourself possible options for bypassing problem areas.
"In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate draws the attention of drivers to the need for strict compliance with traffic regulations during the off-season. Rising air temperatures and differences between daytime and nighttime values increase the risk of accidents on the roads due to precipitation, as well as the resulting limited visibility. Motorists should be more careful, avoid dangerous maneuvers, observe the established speed limit, and increase the interval and distance between vehicles," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
According to the results of January-February 2026, the number of accidents involving victims on the roads of Russia decreased by 8.2% compared to the same period last year. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia on April 7, the number of people killed in road accidents during this period decreased by 13.2%, and the number of injured citizens decreased by 6.3%.
