The feeling that the skin has become "accustomed" to cosmetics and the product has stopped working is more often associated with natural recovery processes, rather than with a loss of product effectiveness. Anna Brygina, a cosmetologist and dermatologist at SM-Cosmetology, told Izvestia about this on April 20.

According to Brygina, at the first stage, the product actively solves the problem — evens skin tone, accelerates cell renewal or stimulates the production of collagen.

"Then comes the maintenance phase. When the skin comes to a more stable state, the task of care changes: now it is important not to "fix", but to preserve the result. The product continues to work at the cellular level, but there is no pronounced wow effect. This is not a sign that cosmetics have stopped working, but, on the contrary, an indicator that the skin has reached balance and is in a stable condition," she said.

According to the expert, the disappearance of reactions such as tingling or peeling when using active ingredients indicates the adaptation of the skin and the restoration of the protective barrier, rather than a decrease in the effectiveness of care.

The specialist explained that the deterioration of the skin is more often associated with external factors — the change of season, dry air, lack of moisture or violation of the skin barrier. In such conditions, even high-quality products may work less noticeably.

The expert also added that the lack of results may indicate improper care, insufficient concentration of active substances, or the need to combine with professional procedures. She stressed that you should not drastically change the funds if they had previously had a positive effect. It is important to take into account the current condition of the skin and adjust the care if necessary.

Maya Karika, cosmetologist at SLOWMO beauty salon, said on April 10 that dry and polluted air in offices can cause skin dehydration and increase sensitivity. According to her, office air is a factor in chronic skin dehydration. We are faced with a constant decrease in humidity, which leads to an increase in transepidermal moisture loss. As a result, the barrier function of the skin is disrupted, and it becomes more sensitive, reactive, and visually less healthy.
