NATO officials have expressed dissatisfaction with some military initiatives of the European Union (EU), in particular the project to create a so-called "drone wall". This was reported on April 16 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

"These measures are seen as part of [European Commission President Ursula] von der Leyen's efforts to make rearmament a central element of her legacy," the publication says.

According to an unnamed diplomat of the alliance, the European Commission (EC) should deal with those areas in which it already has expertise.

On March 16, former head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell accused von der Leyen of systematically exceeding his official powers in shaping the foreign policy course of the association. The diplomat noted that the EU had not made enough efforts to protect international law after the US military strikes on Iranian territory.
