"The probability of forgery is much higher if the artist has already died: as long as the creator is alive, he can always confirm or deny the authenticity of his work. Therefore, we often come across the fact that prices for works by living artists are higher than prices for second—tier works by those who have already died," Pepperstein said in an interview with NSN.
He added that if you buy works by artists who are still alive, the probability of running into a fake is much lower.
The art theorist noted that soon, thanks to modern technologies used to verify works of art, it will be easy to identify fakes.
