The topics discussed at the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul are topical and acute. This was stated on April 15 by the Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matvienko.

"It seems to me that everything is very well organized, the atmosphere is very welcoming. And the discussion that has already begun at the opening is relevant, acute, relevant," she said.

Matvienko also noted the large number of participants in the assembly, specifying that representatives of about 200 countries had come to it. According to her, discussions are taking place actively.

In October 2024, the President of the IPU Assembly, Tulia Exxon, stopped the protest of the Ukrainian delegation at a meeting in Geneva. State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa recalled that a similar situation arose last year at a meeting of the Clinton Foundation, where Ukrainians were not even given the floor, although at least half of the event was devoted to Ukraine.
