Fake product reviews can mislead consumers, but there are signs by which they can be recognized. Pavel Shapkin, Chairman of the National Consumer Rights Protection Union, told about this on April 15.

"There must be an argument that inspires some confidence. <...> The review is objective when the positive aspects are indicated, but there are also some comments or, say, dissatisfaction with the price, comparison with other similar products from the same category," the specialist explained in an interview with RT.

According to Shapkin, it is desirable that the review be accompanied by a photo or video, for example, unpacking or the application process. This is especially important when buying expensive goods, in particular auto parts, because original parts are now very expensive and difficult to access, and analogues from different manufacturers can serve for different times.

The expert also advised not to trust one source: you need to study reviews on independent sites, specialized resources, as well as expert opinions. If the review raises doubts, you should think again before buying. Shapkin urged customers to post their own reviews more often if the product was not as described in order to help each other.

On April 1, the Public Consumer Initiative published a study according to which the share of illegal automotive products in the Russian market approached 50%, and counterfeit products have a particularly high share in certain categories. The most vulnerable from the point of view of counterfeiting were oils and lubricants, filters, spark plugs, suspension and steering parts.
