The share of unsafe fuel has decreased in Russia
In recent years, the share of non-compliant fuel in Russia has decreased from more than 20% to less than 4%. This was announced by the head of Rosstandart Anton Shalaev in a conversation with the country's Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
"In the few years that we have been overseeing this area, more than 10,000 points of sale of automotive fuel have been checked. This is more than a quarter of all gas stations throughout Russia. During this period, the proportion of fuel that does not meet mandatory safety requirements has decreased from more than 20% to less than 4% and is now at this level," Shalaev is quoted as saying on the website of the Government of the Russian Federation.
The head of Rosstandart said that the subordinate institute has developed an express method for determining the mass fraction of sulfur in fuel, which is unique and has no analogues in the world, and it can be used by any consumer. This way, citizens can see how well the fuel they use meets the standards.
GOST for the fuel dispenser was also introduced to combat underfilling and ensure metrological accuracy of the fuel dispenser. The number of discrepancies in this area has also decreased, Shalaev noted. He also shared that in 2026 it is planned to introduce a new project related to public assessments of fuel quality.
Earlier, on April 4, the State Duma proposed to consider the possibility of launching a seasonal social initiative "Gasoline for summer residents", which provides discounts of up to 10% on the purchase of motor fuel for citizens aged 60 and older.
