Gerasimov pointed to the comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and Mongolia.

Russia considers Mongolia to be one of its key partners, whose contacts are traditionally based on friendly cooperation between the two countries. This was announced on April 15 by Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov during talks with his colleague from Mongolia, Lieutenant General Sunrev Ganbyamba.

"We consider Mongolia to be one of Russia's most important partners, whose cooperation is traditionally based on friendship, trust and good neighborliness," Gerasimov said.

The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces stressed that cooperation between the two countries is also developing within the framework of a comprehensive strategic partnership and is based on the agreements reached by the leaders of the states in Ulaanbaatar in September 2024.

According to him, the exchange of military delegations is actively developing, joint operational and combat training events are regularly held, and cooperation has been established between military educational institutions, as well as through the border military districts. Gerasimov expressed confidence that the negotiations will contribute to the further development of cooperation in various fields.

In turn, Ganbyamba noted the high level of bilateral relations, indicating that they are at the maximum stage of development. He recalled that the leaders of the two countries had signed an agreement on friendly relations and strategic partnership, which contributes to the expansion of cooperation, including in the defense sector.

Last November, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with Mongolian Prime Minister Gombozhavyn Zandanshatar, said that the country pays special attention to trilateral cooperation in the Russian Federation–Mongolia–China format. Zandanshatar, in turn, added that the Mongolian side is ready to give permission to open a branch of the Russian bank in the country.
