A network of communication hubs of Ukrainian call centers was eliminated in Crimea
Two 18-year-old residents of the Republic of Tatarstan are accused of organizing a network of communication hubs (sim boxes) for Ukrainian call centers in Crimea, which were used to deceive Russians. This was announced on April 15 by the press service of the regional directorate of the FSB of the Russian Federation.
"The network of communication hubs that was used by Ukrainian call centers has been eliminated. Fraudsters called Russians from abroad and, using various schemes, fraudulently stole money from Crimeans. The amount of damage is more than 50 million rubles, and more than 60 facts of fraud have been revealed," RIA Novosti quoted the agency as saying.
The suspects turned out to be two 18-year-old residents of Tatarstan who came to Crimea specifically to carry out orders from foreign customers. The attackers rented 11 apartments in Simferopol, Yalta and Alushta, where they placed special equipment.
"On the instructions of the Ukrainian supervisors, these individuals rented apartments to accommodate SIM boxes used to make fraudulent calls to the subscriber numbers of Russian citizens," the department said.
For illegal activities, the curators paid the young people $ 150 daily, as well as fully compensated for the cost of renting real estate. A criminal case has been opened against the detainees, who face up to six years in prison.
Two organizers of a communication hub for fraudsters from Ukraine were detained in St. Petersburg. As it was clarified on March 27, two young men aged 17 and 18 were detained as a result of an anti-fraud operation. They came to St. Petersburg from the Tula region. They received the necessary equipment through courier delivery. It was installed in rented apartments in various districts of the city and the Leningrad region.
