US President Donald Trump said that Chinese President Xi Jinping assured him in personal correspondence that Beijing was not supplying weapons to Tehran. This was reported by Bloomberg on April 15.

According to Trump, he sent a letter to the Chinese leader amid Washington's concerns that China could provide military support to Tehran in a conflict involving the United States and Israel.

"I wrote him a letter asking him not to do it, and he wrote me a letter saying, in fact, he's not doing it," Trump said.

On April 12, the American leader also warned that he could impose duties of up to 50% on goods from countries that supply weapons to Tehran. Such a move would potentially affect trade relations between the United States and China, despite earlier agreements on reducing barriers.

CNN, citing sources, reported on April 11 that China intends to supply new air defense systems to Iran in the near future. At the same time, a representative of the Chinese embassy in Washington told the TV channel that China, as a responsible large country, consistently fulfills its international obligations.
