Trump threatened to change relations with US allies because of the war in Iran
The United States will no longer have the same relations with allies who did not help Washington in its operation against Iran. This was announced on April 15 by the American President Donald Trump.
"We no longer have the same relations with those who refused to help us in the situation with Iran," he said in an interview with Fox Business.
Trump also called the war in Iran a small operation. He suggested that if NATO did not support the United States in this conflict, it would not support it in a "much larger" confrontation. Because of this, the American leader questioned the validity of Washington's spending on the military alliance.
"Why are we spending hundreds of billions of dollars a year on NATO if they are not going to be with us? If they are not going to support us in Iran, they will not support us on a much more important issue than Iran," he concluded.
The Financial Times newspaper reported on April 10 that Trump lost his temper at a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte over the alliance's refusal to assist in a military operation against Iran. As specified, he was unhappy with the refusal of France, Spain and Italy to provide access to military bases.
On April 1, the US president announced that he was seriously considering the US withdrawal from NATO after the alliance refused to help in the conflict with Iran. According to him, the North Atlantic Alliance has never influenced him. Trump called the participants paper tigers.
