Yekaterinburg is considering postponing the date of the City Day celebration. It will be celebrated not on the third Saturday of August, but on the first. The initiative belongs to the mayor of the city Alexey Orlov. She was supported by members of the City Duma's local government commission.

The issue should be considered at a meeting of the City Duma in a week. According to Vice Mayor Konstantin Shevchenko, who supported this idea, the probability of rain is lower on the first Saturday of August.

The initiative was discussed back in 2025. Archimandrite Hermogenes, rector of the Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov in Yekaterinburg, drew attention to the fact that the date of the feast coincides with the beginning of the Dormition Fast, which lasts from August 14 to 27. As a result, thousands of believers are unable to participate in the celebration due to restrictions.

The third reason for postponing the City Day is historical validity. According to the <url> news agency, with reference to Igor Pushkarev, director of the Yekaterinburg History Museum, on August 1 (or August 12 according to the new style), 1723, the mining office was transferred to Yekaterinburg from the Uktussky plant.

Last year, the City Day was held in Yekaterinburg on August 16.

At the end of March, it was reported that Yekaterinburg had identified a contractor who would improve the embankment of the Iseti and Olkhovka rivers. Sidewalks, running and cycling paths will be built there, and playgrounds for quiet recreation, children's games and sports will be created. In addition, the slopes on the site will be reinforced with the help of gabion structures. New lighting poles and a video surveillance system will also be installed on the territory.
