The captain of the tanker stuck in the Persian Gulf spoke about the situation
The captain of the oil tanker, Raman Kapoor, told Izvestia on April 15 that his ship had been anchored in the Persian Gulf for more than a month and a half due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to him, the ship has been there since the very beginning of the war between the United States and Israel against Iran — since February 28. The captain shared that other tankers in the bay had come under attack, but their vessel was more fortunate — it was located at a sufficient distance from the impact sites. The crew learned from the news that the ships were being fired at from Iran.
"It is not safe to pass through the Strait of Hormuz directly. We have received clear instructions from the company's head office not to pass through the strait until the situation normalizes," Kapoor said.
Iran does not contact the stranded ship, the captain explained. Contact is maintained only with the company's office.
As Kapoor pointed out, despite the difficult conditions, the crew is "doing well": the sailors regularly hold meetings, communicate with each other and with relatives, play games and maintain morale. There has been no unrest in the region in the last two days, following the intensification of the blockade by the United States, Kapoor stressed. He also expressed hope that the situation would be resolved soon.
"Any war ends sooner or later. It just takes time," he concluded.
On April 13, the United States began a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz due to the failure of negotiations between Washington and Tehran. It is carried out against ships of all countries entering or leaving Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports in the Arabian and Oman Gulfs.
On April 12, US President Donald Trump announced that the US Navy was beginning to block all ships that would attempt to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, the negotiations in Islamabad went well, but the key nuclear issue remained unresolved. Trump said Iran had prevented free passage for ships by using threats about mines.
