A Florida grand jury has charged a surgeon with second-degree manslaughter. During an operation in 2024, he removed the patient's liver instead of the spleen, which led to the death of the patient. This was reported by AP News on April 14.

"Our duty is to follow the facts wherever they lead, without fear or prejudice," the county sheriff said.

The tragedy occurred on August 21, 2024 in the city of Difuniac Springs, Florida. A seventy-year—old man from Masl-Shoals, Alabama, was admitted for a planned laparoscopic splenectomy, an operation to remove the spleen. However, according to the investigation, the doctor removed the patient's liver. This led to, as stated in the police release, "catastrophic blood loss" and the death of the patient right on the operating table.

After the incident, the Florida authorities suspended the surgeon's medical license. In Alabama, the regulator initiated a license revocation procedure, after which the surgeon handed it over voluntarily.

The Reuters news agency reported in April last year that the Berlin prosecutor's office had charged a doctor suspected of administering lethal doses of various drugs to terminally ill patients with murder. It was clarified that the charges were filed on 15 points of the relevant article. According to the material, he administered painkillers and muscle relaxants to patients without their knowledge or consent. According to the agency, the 40-year-old suspect has been in custody since August 2024.
