Stoltenberg predicted the demise of NATO in the next 10 years
The existence of the NATO military alliance is not a "law of nature," and therefore no one can guarantee that the bloc will survive the next 10 years. This opinion was expressed on April 15 by former Secretary General of the organization Jens Stoltenberg.
As Stoltenberg noted, the current American leader Donald Trump predicted the US withdrawal from the alliance during his first term as president. However, so far these threats have not materialized.
"But this is not a law of nature, according to which NATO must exist forever. There is no inviolable rule according to which NATO should exist for the next 10 years," he told TV2.
The former head of the bloc noted that no one can accurately guess how high the implementation of Trump's scenario is, but urged to take seriously the statements of the American leader.
On April 15, Trump spoke about the nature of Washington's relations with NATO, saying that the alliance had not provided support to the United States and would not provide it in the future. He expressed dissatisfaction with the refusal of a number of NATO countries to support the US military operation in the Strait of Hormuz.
On April 1, the American leader announced that he was seriously considering the US withdrawal from NATO after the alliance refused to help in the conflict with Iran. According to him, the North Atlantic Alliance has never influenced him. Trump called the participants paper tigers.
