Russia and China should work more closely together to protect their interests and maintain the unity of the States of the global South. This was stated by Chinese President Xi Jinping at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Beijing on April 15.
"In the face of unprecedented changes in a century, China and Russia must firmly defend the legitimate interests of the two countries and protect the unity of the states of the global South through even closer and stronger strategic cooperation," he said.
He also added that Russia and China should make full use of their good-neighborly and complementary advantages, deepen comprehensive cooperation and enhance development sustainability.
Xi Jinping, during a meeting with Lavrov in Beijing on April 15, noted the relevance and value of cooperation between Russia and China. The Chinese leader noted that he is conducting a dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin from a "strategic height" and is determined to continue it.
Lavrov arrived in Beijing on an official visit a day earlier. On April 15, he and Chinese President Xi Jinping began a meeting at the People's Assembly House as part of the official visit of the Russian Foreign Minister to China.
