Politico has learned about the EU's unwillingness to discuss the admission of new members to the union

Representatives of the European Union (EU) countries opposed possible debates about the entry of new members into the community. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on April 14, citing sources.

This also applies to such candidates for membership as Ukraine and Moldova. It is noted that the political consequences for any leader who initiates such discussions are of the greatest concern.

"To ensure the success and credibility of EU enlargement, it is necessary to maintain a demanding and merit—based approach," French Minister Delegate for European Affairs Benjamin Haddad said in an interview with the publication.
