At a meeting in Beijing with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the crisis in Ukraine, the war between the United States and Iran, as well as the situation in the Asia-Pacific region. This was announced by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on February 14.

"The two sides discussed and agreed on plans for a meeting of the heads of state to be held later this year, and exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of mutual interest, including the conflict between the United States and Iran, the situation in the Asia—Pacific region, and the Ukrainian crisis," the ministry said in a statement on its website.

Lavrov noted that the current international situation is facing serious challenges, and some countries are trying to form various "small circles" to contain Russia and China. According to him, both sides should maintain coordination and cooperation in multilateral arenas and in international and regional affairs and protect their national interests.

Lavrov said on January 20 that China had outplayed the West in trade, economy and investment according to its own rules. According to him, China's high economic and financial performance "speaks for itself." The minister also noted that the West is trying to slow down China's growth through duties and sanctions.
