About 160 cultural heritage sites in Iran were attacked during the bombing of the United States and Israel. This was announced on April 14 by Hassan Firtusi, Secretary General of Iran's National Commission for UNESCO, in an interview with RIA Novosti

"About 160 cultural heritage sites reflecting the civilization, history and geography of modern Iran were hit," he said.

According to Firtusi, due to the unfavorable situation, UNESCO representatives have so far sent international missions to the Islamic Republic to record and assess the damage done.

On April 13, the governor of Tehran Province, Mohammad Sadegh Motamedian, invited the Russian Ambassador to Iran, Alexei Dedov, to visit the places that suffered from joint strikes by the United States and Israel. According to Motamedian, 40,000 residential buildings in Tehran province were damaged in the attacks. The objects included in the UNESCO list were also affected.

On April 7, residents of Iran, amid threats from US President Donald Trump to launch massive strikes against the country, began to form human chains around important facilities that could potentially become targets of an attack by American missiles. Residents of the whole country came out to protest. Some rallies were held near power plants in Bushehr, Mazanderan, Mashhad and Hamadan. In addition, the action was supported by residents of the city of Yazd, the historical part of which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
